Pork, Ginger and Broccoli Stirfry

This recipe was from the Sainsbury’s website but has disappeared, so here it is… delicious!

  • 2 tablespoons five spice paste
  • 1 tablespoon light soy sauce 
  • 1 tablespoon clear honey 
  • 1 clove garlic, finely chopped
  • 2.5cm piece root ginger, peeled and finely grated
  • 1 red chilli, deseeded and finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon cornflour
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 300g broccoli, cut into small florets
  • 150g British green cabbage, chopped
  • 300g cooked roast pork, cut into thin strips
  • 2 nests fine egg noodles
  • ½ x 31g pack fresh coriander, washed and chopped
  1. Make the sauce. In a small bowl, mix together the five spice paste, soy sauce, honey, garlic, ginger, chilli and cornflour. Stir in 100ml cold water and whisk until smooth. Set aside.
  2. Heat the oil in a large wok or frying pan. Add the onion, broccoli and cabbage, and stir-fry for 5 minutes. 
  3. Tip in the sauce, along with the pork and stir-fry for around 2 minutes until the sauce thickens and the pork is warmed through. 
  4. Meanwhile, cook the noodles. Bring a medium pan of water to the boil, add the noodles and cook for around 3 minutes until tender. Drain and add to the wok along with the pork and veg. Toss together until combined and serve immediately, garnished with the coriander.

This was delicious, 1964 5 stars! It couldn’t really be bad could it?

Only adjustment I made was half pork/half lean steak mince and saute the onions first. Perhaps next time we will try a big glug of Worcestershire sauce and grating of nutmeg but it was fantastic, have added it to my list of favourites.

Slow Roast Pork Chops with Apple

 This recipe was born after buying half a Gloucester Old Spot from a very lovely lady… So now my freezer is full and I have 18 pork chops to use (well 14 now!)

4 bone in pork chops, skin off but fat left on

1 apple, peeled and sliced

1 onion, thinly sliced

2 cloves garlic

splash white wine

1 tbsp plain flour

chicken stock (not sure quantity, maybe 500ml)

handful of rosemary

salt and pepper

Fry the onion in olive oil until soft, add the garlic and fry for 2 mins. Stir in the flour then add the wine and stir until thickened. Add the chicken stock, apples and seasoning and simmer for a while.

Meanwhile brown the pork chops in a frypan.

Put the chops into a casserole, tip the sauce on top, it should cover the chops if not add a little more stock. Place a handful of fresh rosemary on top, put the lid on and bake in the oven for 2 hours, removing the lid for the last 20 minutes.

I served with Roast potatoes and buttered broccoli. Next time I think I will add some mushrooms into the sauce with the garlic, and serve it with mashed carrots and potato.

Sticky Pork with Cranberries

As you will probably notice the more I post, I LOVE BBC good food website! this is one of my favourite recipes, yummy pork with sweet sticky cranberry sauce. Best served with buttery mash potatoes and green beans.
